Spotlight on Kristin Ferrufino, E&I Sourcing Consultant
I began my career in Procurement at a small pharmaceutical manufacturing company, and while there I pursued a bachelor’s degree in communications and psychology, followed by a master’s degree in human resources.
From there I was hired at the University of Virginia as a buyer and had the opportunity to work alongside VASCUPP (Virginia Association of State College and University Purchasing Professionals), where we focused on identifying contracts and cost savings for institutions in Virginia. I added over 100 contracts to their repository in my time there.
During that time I developed a passion for Sustainability. I’ve had the good fortune to work with organizations like My Green Lab to pioneer adoption of the ACT Label certification and I’m currently a judge for the 2023 AASHE (The Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education) Sustainability Research Awards in the graduate research category.
As a Sourcing Consultant, I serve our members by providing guidance and resources to develop effective procurement strategies, overcome challenges, and optimize their operations. I work closely with members from different states, learning from their experiences and sharing industry best practices.
I aim to empower our members by offering them valuable insights and tailored support to advance their procurement objectives. By drawing on my own experiences as a buyer and leveraging industry knowledge, I ensure our members receive the assistance they need to succeed and maximize their impact.
What I find most rewarding is the opportunity to contribute to a more sustainable future. By aligning procurement practices with sustainability goals, I can make a positive impact within our organization and the broader academic community. It’s incredibly fulfilling to work towards a greener and more environmentally conscious world.
I have two guilty pleasures: reality TV shows and Disney movies. I like to think they provide me with a wonderful balance of captivating drama and enchanting storytelling.
When I’m not spending quality time with my husband, daughter (5 years old), and son (10 months old), you can often find me at a day spa. Having previously worked at a day spa for several years, I have developed a personal goal to visit as many spas as possible in my lifetime. It’s a relaxing and rejuvenating experience that allows me to unwind and take care of myself, I highly recommend it.
I had enough credit hours to finish high school in the middle of my senior year, so I decided to leave and started my college journey early at a community college. Throughout my education, I attended a total of six different universities to finalize my degrees.
“Finally / Beautiful Stranger” by Halsey, “The Let Go” by Elle King, and any song from the Sing or Trolls movies because my kids love listening to them daily.
